But if this is the case, and the antioxidant powers of curcumin have been known for decades, why isn&#8217;t this plant chemical the standard of care?</p>

<h2>If Curcumin Could Be The Cure For Cancer Why It’s Not Being Used</h2>
<p>Part of the answer is that this chemical component of curry powder is not very well absorbed through the intestines. Less than 10 per cent of the dose taken by mouth actually finds its way into the hepatic portal vein, the liver, and bloodstream circulation.</p>
<p>Doctors at the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, Israel report that giving advanced pancreatic cancer patients a combination of the chemotherapy drug gemcitabine and curcumins extends life, slightly, but only in about 10 per cent of cases.</p>
<h2>Prevention of Cancer with Curcumin</h2>
<p>Of course, if you already have advanced cancer and you are taking chemotherapy, it&#8217;s going to be hard to keep food or supplements down and it&#8217;s going to be hard to get them into your system. Maybe this turmeric chemical is really better used as a tool for prevention&#8211;and that&#8217;s what the science shows.</p>
<h2>How To Fight Cancer Effectively With Curcumin</h2>
<p>Dr. Jeremy James Johnson of the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and Dr. Hasan Mukhtar of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine offer the opinion that there is &#8220;overwhelming evidence&#8221; that curcumin can kill cancer cells in a test tube in the laboratory.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The curry chemical works against breast, cervical, colon, gastric, hepatic, leukemia, oral epithelial, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cell lines. And the problem with absorption may have been overcome by scientists led by researcher Benny Antony at Arjuna Natural Extracts in Alwaye, India.</p>
<h2>100% Absorption of Curcumin Into Your Body</h2>
<p>The way to get curcumin into the bloodstream seems to be combine the antioxidant extract with the essential oil in a capsule. This kind of product seems to increase absorption to nearly 100 per cent, which is 9 to 15 times more than other supplements. If you are going to work with your doctor to take any kind of supplement as part of your cancer care, the very least you want from your supplements is to make sure they are absorbed!</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This manufacturing process is only about four years old, so there has not been time for clinical testing. Turmeric and curcumin products are, however, extremely non-toxic even in doses of up to 8,000 mg a day, so it will be worth the effort to consult with your physician about using them to prevent or defeat pancreatic cancer. Take with meals or with fish oil or flaxseed oil capsules. Do not use this supplement if you have gallstones, gallbladder problems, or any kind of obstruction of the bile ducts.</p>

<p>As improbable as it sounds, the March 2008 edition of the medical <em>Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine</em> reported a clinical trial of TAPAS Acupressure Technique for losing weight. The idea behind TAPAS is that applying pressure to appropriate acupressure pressure points for weight loss really does seem to melt away the pounds.</p>
<p>TAPAS acupressure is not an Asian acupressure techniques. California acupuncturist Tapas Fleming and Associates (TAPAS) originally developed the method to treat fears, phobias, and post-traumatic stress. Since accumulating belly fat is also related to stress hormones, a team of research scientists at Kaiser-Permanente Health Research Center in Portland, Oregon tested the hypothesis that TAPAS might enhance weight loss.</p>
<p>It does.</p>
<p>The Kaiser-Permanente researchers concluded that the average additional weight loss with the help of TAPAS Acupressure Technique was only about 1.2 kg, or about 3 pounds. That doesn&#8217;t sound like a lot of weight, but many dieters only lose a few pounds.</p>
<p>The most important finding of the Kaiser-Permanente research was that acupressure not only helped people lose pounds, it helped them keep them off. So how can you do TAPAS on your own?</p>
<p><em>Gently</em> place your thumb just inside the corner of your eye. This is a spot next to the bridge of your nose. Your thumb should be barely be touching the bottom side of your eyebrow.</p>
<p>Next place your ring finger (fourth finger) so that it also rests gently on the corner of your eye, while your middle finger rests between your eyebrows.</p>
<p>Hold fingers in place. Relax.</p>
<p>If this technique sounds really &#8220;alternative,&#8221; well, maybe it is. But it works.<br />
Just five minutes twice a day really helps people lose weight and keep it off.</p>

For nearly 20 years, coaches, trainers, and weight loss experts have proclaimed the benefits of green tea, green tea diet pills, and similar products. But until now an important part of the story of green tea has been left out. Here is what the scientific research now tells us:</p>
<p><em><strong>Green tea works by increasing the benefits of exercise.</strong></em><strong><em><br />
</em></strong><br />
Medical researchers at the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Birmingham in the UK tested the effects of taking 3 capsules of green tea extract 24 hours before volunteers did workouts at maximum velocity on a stationary bike.</p>
<p>Volunteers who took the green tea supplement showed:</p>
<ul>
<li>17 per cent <em>faster</em> fat      burning,</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>17 per cent <em>more</em> fat      burning, and</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Enhanced sensitivity to      insulin, helping muscles take up both glucose and amino acids to repair      themselves and grow after exercise.</li>
</ul>
<p>When cells are more sensitive to insulin, the pancreas can make less insulin, and there is less insulin that also helps store fat.</p>
<p>But what about green tea users who do not get out and exercise as hard as they can. Researchers at the University of Geneva in Nice, France, discovered that:</p>
<p><em><strong>Green tea has fewer benefits for people who do not exercise.</strong></em></p>
<p>The French scientists found that taking one capsule of green tea extract a day results in:</p>
<ul>
<li>4 per cent faster fat burning      even at rest, with</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>No loss of muscle mass</li>
</ul>
<p>even when volunteers did not exercise at all.</p>
<p>There was one other finding. The French scientists found that green tea did not work without caffeine. The British scientists found that green tea did work without caffeine. So here is the one additional finding that&#8217;s important to know about green tea:</p>
<p><em><strong>A low-dose of green tea (1 capsule a day) aid needs to be combined with caffeine to help you lose weight. But a higher-dose of green tea (3 capsules a day) works even without caffeine, as long as dieters exercise.</strong></em></p>

<li><em>Your diet helped you lose 3 to 8 pounds really fast, and</em></li>
<li><em>Getting off your diet caused you to regain those 3 to 8 pounds just as fast as you lost them.</em></li>

<p>Don&#8217;t be distressed if you regain just 3 to 8 pounds when you go off a low-carb diet. It&#8217;s water weight. Every time you lost a pound of fat, you &#8220;paid for it&#8221; by cutting 3,500 calories out of your diet or by doing hours and hours of exercise. But those first 3 to 8 pounds you lost on your low-carb diet were really water.</p>
<p>Your liver uses a tremendous amount of water to store a small amount of emergency energy. The liver makes sure you have quick energy by keeping about 3/4 of a pound of sugar in the form of glycogen. Glycogen is a combination of glucose and water. Every molecule of glucose sugar is combined with four molecules of water.</p>
<p>So when you first got on your low-carb diet, your liver tapped the emergency sugar supply. The first 3/4 pound of water covered just 1600 calories—but you could have lost as much as 8 pounds! These pounds come right back when you start eating enough additional food to allow your liver to store sugar once again.</p>
<p>So don&#8217;t despair if you have a sharp weight gain when you stop a low-carb diet. It&#8217;s water, not fat, and sensible eating habits will still keep those fat pounds away.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Is it really possible to lose weight on a high-fat diet? Recent research conducted by Danish scientists says the answer to this question is yes, but it is not easy to keep the weight off once you stop.</p>
<p>Researchers at four hospitals in Denmark conducted a six-month study of high-fat, low-fat, and low-calorie diets. They wanted to see if any of the approaches to weight loss helped dieters lose more weight or keep it off longer. They also wanted to know if the diets affected cholesterol or blood sugars. The participants in the study ranged in age between 25 and 35.</p>
<p>No matter which diet the dieters used, they all lost weight. Also, they all gained weight when they stopped dieting. The amount of weight regained, however, was lowest among the dieters who had been on low-fat diets, or who had been careful to eat only healthy fats, like those in nuts, seeds, and fish. Dieters who just reduced calories regained the most weight when they stopped dieting.</p>
<p>Oddly enough, the lowest cholesterol readings were found in the dieters who ate the most fat. There is actually a reason for this. The liver makes most of the body&#8217;s cholesterol. It constantly flushes the excess cholesterol away through the bile. If you eat more fat, the liver makes more bile, so eating fat actually in this case lowered total cholesterol levels.</p>
<p>There was an additional benefit to eating healthy fats. The group that ate the most healthy fat had the lowest insulin levels. Insulin stores not just sugar but also fat, so the higher healthy fat diet was also superior on this score.</p>

The problem for most dieters is that supplements that sound alike may deliver very different results. Here is what dieters need to know about the six most popular weight loss products. This list includes supplements that give real diet results, and supplements that don&#8217;t.</p>
<p>Nutrition scientists argued about the role of <strong><em>chromium</em></strong> in weight loss for over a generation. The first studies showed that chromium seemed to guarantee quick weight loss. Then a whole bunch of studies concluded that chromium could even cause weight gain. Finally researchers found out that the kind of chromium used in the supplement is what makes the critical difference.</p>
<p>The kind of chromium supplement that increases weight loss is the <strong><em>niacin-bound chromium III complex</em></strong>. This is not the same as the more familiar chromium picolinate. Niacin-bound chromium helps dieters lose weight because it &#8220;welds&#8221; <strong><em>vitamin E</em></strong> to fat cells. This ensures that anti-inflammatory antioxidants go to the tissues that need them and stay there.</p>
<p>Antioxidants prevent inflammation and swelling. That is the reason taking 100 IU of a balanced vitamin E a day may actually help you lose weight. Be sure you take your daily E with at least 200 mg of <strong><em>vitamin C</em></strong>.</p>
<p><strong><em>Green tea</em></strong> is another reliable weight loss aid, but how much weight it will help you lose depends on how it is combined with other ingredients. Green tea phytosomes are best. And you also need to know that taking green tea does not help you lose weight unless you also consume at least a little <strong><em>caffeine</em></strong>, but getting more than 300 mg of caffeine a day from all sources will cancel out the weight loss effect. That means that if you take even the most expensive and best formulated green tea capsules (the phytosomes) but drink a lot of regular coffee, regular tea, or sodas, the green tea will not help you lose weight or keep it off.</p>
<p>Hydroxycitric acid (better known as <strong><em>HCA</em></strong>) is a tropical fruit extract. Until about 10 years ago scientists could not explain how it works. Now it is known that HCA interacts with genes that encourage the breakdown of the collagen that forms the scaffolding for fat tissue. When the collagen matrix that holds fat in place melts away, then the individual fat cells are easily depleted.</p>
<p>And now for a diet aid that doesn&#8217;t really work very well. Orlistat, which is sold under the brand name <strong><em>Alli</em></strong>, interferes with the absorption of dietary fat, but it also interferes with the absorption of vitamins and phytochemicals that are soluble in fat, such as alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, and zeaxanthin, as well as vitamins A, D, E, and K. Even worse, you only lose about 3% more weight if you take Alli when you diet.</p>

<p>4. Start with cucumber salads, edamame, or sea vegetables.</p>

<p>1. Eat vegetables with your antipasto.</p>
<p>2. Choose plain breadsticks, not cheese.</p>

<p>3. Never, ever supersize. Even an ordinary fast food meal offers about twice as many calories as you need at one feeding. Supersizing makes the problem even worse. Think smaller meals, more often, rather than loading up on calories just because they are cheap.  And pizzas are meant to be shared, even if they come in a personal pan.</p>
<p>4. Cut own on salt. You don&#8217;t necessarily have to avoid salting your food at the table. Just go to restaurants that specialize in fresh ingredients. Restaurant chains can cover up the taste of cheaper or canned meat and produce with salt. The sodium in salt is a major contributor to high blood pressure, and if your food really needs salt, it really isn&#8217;t fresh.</p>
<p>5. If it&#8217;s a buffet, stay away. When you have no other alternatives, avoid  butter, cheese sauces, cream sauces, gravies, and rich desserts. Sit and wait 20 minutes after your first trip to the buffet table to see if you are really hungry for more.</p>
<p>6. Order your salads &#8220;undressed.&#8221; Keeping the dressing on the side so you can your fork in it before picking up a bite of the salad gives you all the flavor of the dressing with a fraction of the calories.</p>
<p>7. Drink water. Sweet tea and sodas are an enormous source of calories. Two glasses of sweetened tea or 32 ounces of a sugar-sweetened soft drink fill you up with more carbohydrates than you need for an entire meal, and the carbs you get from these beverages are 100% sugar.</p>
<p>8. Eat mindfully. Taste your food and chew it thoroughly. If it doesn&#8217;t taste good, you don&#8217;t have to ever come to this restaurant again. Just don&#8217;t eat food so quickly you don&#8217;t even taste it.</p>
<p>9. Always choose naturally raised meat, dairy products without recombinant growth hormone (rGH), organic produce, and fruits and vegetables from local farms. Only a few fast food chains, like Chipotle Mexican Grill, emphasize natural produce, but many smaller, locally owned and managed eateries do.</p>
<p>10. See dieting as part of the big picture. This is not the last meal you will ever eat. You don&#8217;t have to go to bed without supper! Focus on really enjoying smaller amounts of healthy food, and you will improve your health as you lose excess weight.</p>

But did you know that your body can spend so many calories digesting homemade vegetable soup that it also effectively has negative calories?</p>
<p>There are no foods that somehow suck calories out of your fat cells. But there are foods that require more energy to chew and digest than they release to the body. Vegetable soup can be one of those foods if you prepare it the right way.</p>
<p>The best way to do a cabbage soup diet is to plan ahead and make a big pot of cabbage soup stock—minus the vegetables—the day before you start your diet. This soup stock will become more and more flavorful as the week goes on. Every time you eat a cup (the minimum) or a bowl (not a maximum, but enough) of vegetable soup, you first bring the soup stock to boiling and the pop in some chopped cabbage, spinach, or kale, turning off the heat and allowing the soup to sit until the greens are wilted and tender. Of course, you can also pop in a little finely sliced celery, carrots, onion, garlic, mushroom, tomato, cilantro, or just a few sweet corn kernels for more taste and flavor.</p>
<p>This soup will fill you up. It&#8217;s very low in calories. But if you want to make your vegetable soup negative-calorie, follow this simple rule:</p>
<p>Start with vegetable stock that you heat up. Then add vegetables, but only vegetables, and consume the soup before the cabbage gets tender.</p>
<p>You will also want to avoid adding any oil to your soup stock, of course, and vegetable stock will be better than chicken stock or beef stock. The vegetables need to  retain a little crunch (and all their fiber) for it to have effectively less than zero calories.</p>
<p>Your body will use more calories digesting the soup than it will get out of the soup—just not very many more calories. You will burn a net of about 20 calories per bowl of cabbage soup. Over a year, however, that&#8217;s another two pounds of fat loss or maybe seven pounds of total weight loss (since you eventually lose water weight as you lose fat).</p>
