Even you have finally found the perfect diet plan, there are six safe and effective diet supplements that can help you lose weight even faster. The problem for most dieters is that supplements that sound alike may deliver very different results. Here is what dieters need to know about the six most popular weight loss products. This list includes supplements that give real diet results, and supplements that don’t.

Nutrition scientists argued about the role of chromium in weight loss for over a generation. The first studies showed that chromium seemed to guarantee quick weight loss. Then a whole bunch of studies concluded that chromium could even cause weight gain. Finally researchers found out that the kind of chromium used in the supplement is what makes the critical difference.

The kind of chromium supplement that increases weight loss is the niacin-bound chromium III complex. This is not the same as the more familiar chromium picolinate. Niacin-bound chromium helps dieters lose weight because it “welds” vitamin E to fat cells. This ensures that anti-inflammatory antioxidants go to the tissues that need them and stay there.

Antioxidants prevent inflammation and swelling. That is the reason taking 100 IU of a balanced vitamin E a day may actually help you lose weight. Be sure you take your daily E with at least 200 mg of vitamin C.

Green tea is another reliable weight loss aid, but how much weight it will help you lose depends on how it is combined with other ingredients. Green tea phytosomes are best. And you also need to know that taking green tea does not help you lose weight unless you also consume at least a little caffeine, but getting more than 300 mg of caffeine a day from all sources will cancel out the weight loss effect. That means that if you take even the most expensive and best formulated green tea capsules (the phytosomes) but drink a lot of regular coffee, regular tea, or sodas, the green tea will not help you lose weight or keep it off.

Hydroxycitric acid (better known as HCA) is a tropical fruit extract. Until about 10 years ago scientists could not explain how it works. Now it is known that HCA interacts with genes that encourage the breakdown of the collagen that forms the scaffolding for fat tissue. When the collagen matrix that holds fat in place melts away, then the individual fat cells are easily depleted.

And now for a diet aid that doesn’t really work very well. Orlistat, which is sold under the brand name Alli, interferes with the absorption of dietary fat, but it also interferes with the absorption of vitamins and phytochemicals that are soluble in fat, such as alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, and zeaxanthin, as well as vitamins A, D, E, and K. Even worse, you only lose about 3% more weight if you take Alli when you diet.

    There is some merit to the old saying, “eat your carrots or you’ll go blind.” Carrots are an excellent source of beta-carotene and problems with the eyes are one symptom of a deficiency of beta-carotene. However, there are other sources of beta-carotene that offer a sufficient source of nutrients. It shouldn’t surprise you that vegetables and fruits are your best source of beta-carotene.-
